National service scheme WING (Nss), Shri Pandit Prem Nath Dogra GDC Samba

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. This scheme was launched in Gandhi ji’s Centenary year in 1969. It provides opportunity to the student youth of 11th & 12th Class of schools at +2 Board level and student youth of Technical Institution, Graduate & Post Graduate at colleges and University level of India to take part in various government led community service activities & programmes. The Motto of NSS “Not Me But You”, reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service.

The NSS unit ‘MAITRI’ at SPPND Govt Degree College Samba has strength of 103 volunteers in the college under the supervision of Programme Officer Ms. Kamlesh Bala (Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Geography). The aim of the unit is to motivate the students to indulge in nation building activities through various events/ programmes and rendering selfless service to the community.

There are two types of NSS activities: Regular Activities (120 hours) and Annual Special Camp (120 hours). All the NSS Volunteers who have served NSS for at least 2 years and have performed 240 hours of work under NSS are entitled for certificates from the university under the signature of the Vice-Chancellor and the Programme Coordinator.

Our NSS volunteers regularly participate in several of Social activates like Yoga Day, Tree plantation, eye check-up camp, general check-up, Blood donation camp. During special seven days camp volunteers engage in physical labour like campus cleaning, tree plantation etc. NSS volunteers also participate in awareness programmes against social problems like pollution, pulse [olio immunization, voter awareness, Traffic Awareness Rally etc.

The NSS wing also conducts various Guest Lectures, Competitions and workshops during regular and special camps on themes like AIDS awareness, self- defence, legal awareness, ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’, Gender sensitization, Digital India etc. The role of NSS unit in college performance has always been very important. The NSS wing also collaborates with several NGO’s in and has adopted Village Balore and is working on these issues in and around adopted village.
